Future of work: How to make remote work actually work?”
Effective implementation of remote working
The article “future of work: How to make remote work actually work?” indicated that remote Work has become a dominant culture in the working environment of California as per the study of Sylvia Gallusser, a foresight researcher in Silicon Humanism. However, European countries like France have not been able to efficiently implement it on a wider scale according to the study of several researchers (Parker, S.K., 2021).
Corporate life has become an important component of social life with the innovation of the internet, computer, Skype, electronic mailbox, and other technology. Remote working was first implemented during the 1990s by companies like IBM, American Express, and AT&T. The culture of work from home can be understood through Durkheim’s social theory which considers it as a social fact (Minello, A., 2020).
The culture of remote working was significantly present in various states in USA and European countries before the pandemic because there were 5.8% full-time remote employees (Fokaides, P.A., 2020). Remote workers across the world were aware of their necessary responsibility of attending meetings and other tasks. Thus, the CEO of Yahoo get backlash from media and employees when she tried to abolish work from home culture.
It is a wrong perception of people that remote working reduces productivity because 94% of workers of 800 companies responded that their productivity is equal or higher in comparison to the pre-pandemic time in the study of Mercer (Sako, M., 2021). Trust is the major concerning factor between employers and employees for developing effective remote working culture. Organisations require to focus on providing training regarding online applications and providing mental support to remote workers for building trust with them. Employees must transform the parks of employees in the office in different ways when they become remote workers (Omari, M., 2021).
The successful implementation of remote working culture depends on trust between employer and employees. Employers need to focus on online technology and facilities of employees for making the remote working model work efficiently.
